The SkyLine is the critical physical link between Frankfurt Airport's terminals. It is not a public train. It is not optional for T3. This page is the single source of truth for every SkyLine reference across FrankfurtFinder.
The SkyLine is a free, automated people mover operating on a dedicated elevated track within Frankfurt Airport's secure perimeter. It connects Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. It is not the S-Bahn, not the regional train, not the ICE, and not a public transport service. You cannot use it to leave the airport or reach the city.
SkyLine stations are located inside the secure area of each terminal. You do not need to leave airside to use the SkyLine.
The 8-minute T1→T3 ride time is Fraport's published vehicle-ride duration. The total terminal transfer includes: walking to the SkyLine station inside T1, waiting for the next vehicle, the 8-minute ride, walking from the T3 SkyLine station to your departure gate, and the security re-screen typically required at T3. FrankfurtFinder does not publish a single total transfer time because it varies by your specific gate location.
Any journey involving both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 requires the SkyLine. There is no walking route. There is no shuttle bus. There is no alternative. T3 is physically separated from the main terminal complex and is accessible only via SkyLine.
This affects: all T3 departures from T1 arrivals, all T3 arrivals connecting to T1 departures, hotel guests at T1-connected hotels departing from T3, passengers parking at T1/T2 and departing from T3.
Moving within Terminal 1 (between piers A, B, C, Z) — you can walk. T1↔T2 (if T2 is operational) — SkyLine is optional, walking routes exist. T1↔ICE station or T1↔S-Bahn station — these are landside connections, no SkyLine needed. Moving between landside and airside — this requires security screening, not SkyLine.
SkyLine operates within the secure airport perimeter. You can change terminals via SkyLine without entering landside. This is essential for connecting passengers who need to remain airside.
A T1→T3 SkyLine journey typically requires a security re-screen at T3. This happens within the airside zone — you do not enter landside. But it adds time and a structural step to your connection.
SkyLine does not involve passport control. Passport control is a separate process that occurs at fixed checkpoints within terminals, independent of SkyLine travel. If your route crosses the Schengen border, passport control is required regardless of whether you use SkyLine.
SkyLine may be suspended during night maintenance windows. If you have a very early or very late connection involving T3, verify SkyLine operational status with Fraport. There is no walking alternative.
This checker classifies whether SkyLine is required, optional, or not needed for your situation.
