Overnight Layover at Frankfurt Airport: Where Should You Sleep?

You have three structurally distinct options: MY CLOUD (airside, transit-only, hourly), an airport hotel (landside, proper bed, morning security re-entry), or a city hotel (S-Bahn both ways, more options, morning travel). Which one is structurally right depends on your situation — not on hotel ratings.

MY CLOUD is the only airside option — but only for eligible transit passengers. Airport hotels give you the shortest morning path to your gate. City hotels offer more choice but add S-Bahn travel both ways. Your baggage, terminal, and departure time determine which is structurally correct.
1 · THREE STRUCTURAL OPTIONS
MY CLOUD
Airside at T1 Gate Z25. Hourly cabins. Transit passengers only. Non-Schengen zone. No landside entry required.
✓ Stay airside · No morning security
✗ Eligibility required · Not for all passengers
AIRPORT HOTEL
Landside. Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, HGI, MEININGER. Proper bed, shower. Morning security re-entry required.
✓ Shortest morning path · Classified by terminal access
✗ Landside entry · Morning security queue
CITY HOTEL
Frankfurt city centre. More choice, restaurants, atmosphere. S-Bahn both ways + morning security.
✓ More hotel options · City atmosphere
✗ S-Bahn travel · Only for departures after 09:00

4 · COMMON OVERNIGHT MISTAKES
✕ Booking MY CLOUD without checking eligibility.
MY CLOUD is airside and transit-only. Arriving or departing passengers cannot access it. Always verify eligibility before booking.
✕ City hotel for a 06:00 departure.
First S-Bahn may not run early enough. You need to check out, travel, and clear security before boarding. Airport hotel is structurally required for early departures.
✕ Assuming any "airport hotel" is at the terminal.
Gateway Gardens hotels require S-Bahn. Only T1-connected hotels (Marriott, Sheraton) and The Squaire hotels (Hilton, HGI) have direct/covered terminal access. Check the Hotels Hub for classification.
✕ Booking a hotel for the wrong terminal.
A T1-connected hotel does not serve a T3 departure the same way. T3 adds SkyLine. Book based on your departure terminal, not your arrival terminal.
5 · FAQ
Can I stay at MY CLOUD for an overnight layover?
Yes, if you are an eligible transit passenger in the Non-Schengen zone at T1. MY CLOUD is the only airside overnight option — but eligibility is not guaranteed.
Airport hotel or city hotel?
Airport hotel: shortest morning path, no S-Bahn, best for departures before 09:00. City hotel: more choice, needs S-Bahn both ways, feasible for departures after 10:00 with light luggage.
Can I sleep in the terminal?
FRA does not prohibit resting in the terminal. Many passengers do. But there are no dedicated sleep facilities outside MY CLOUD, NapCabs, and landside hotels. No bed, no shower, light and noise. FrankfurtFinder does not evaluate comfort or safety.
